Good evening to the Governing Body of SPSA 2.0, The Council of Past Presidents,

and to all Fellows of the Philippine Surgeons in America (SPSA, USA and Canada):

It is with great sadness that I inform you that my brother-in-law, Freddie Ng (UP Class ’62), one of the founders of the SPSA, passed away at 5:41 PM today, April 17, 2023, in the ICU of Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, from a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. He was surrounded by his wife, my sister Anita, and five children: Peter, Cheryl, David, Cindy, and Joseph. Freddie was 85. (Peter is a general surgeon who took over Freddie’s well-known busy multi-surgical group in Raleigh). Freddie was the only SPSA founder who was able to attend the Golden Anniversary celebration of the SPSA in Las Vegas October 22, 2022. Handicapped with mobility issues, he endeavored to attend even in a wheelchair. After a couple of hours, he had to leave because he was not feeling well, and missed the tribute I paid him. He was an accomplished surgeon, a medical leader, and humanitarian. During his retirement, he was happiest being in the OR doing surgery during medical missions in the Philippines, for decades. The Carolina Medical Mission he helped found and headed for a while will continue his legacy of helping the poor in our native land, those marginalized, suffering in the gutter of poverty.

Let us pray for Freddie’s family and for his eternal peace. May he walk with God.

A sad day for all who knew and respected Freddie well. Among the very best of Filipino-American Surgeons who left a footprint of quality surgical care given with empathy and care; a humanitarian who never forgot his roots and whose entire life filled with accomplishments was a role model for all. He will be missed, but he will remain alive as long as he is remembered. He lived a full life. May he rest in Peace.
