Dr. Alfonso Lopez, former preident of SPSA died from complications from a neurologic condition at Citrus Hill, Florida.

He graduated from University of the East College of Medicine in 1963 and pursued his Surgical Residency training at the V.A. Hospital and the Saginaw Affiliated Hospitals from 1965-1971 and established his General Surgery practic at Benton Harbor, MI and served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Watervilet Community Hospital.

He was Certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1975 and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1977. He was a Fellow of the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America and served as President 1995-1966.

Dr. Lopez retired from practice in 2005 and moved to Hernando until his demise. He is survived by his wife Cely and four children.

Dr. Al Lopez, past SPSA President died today June 24, 2026 at Citrus Hills., Florida. He is married to Cely Lopez, my first cousin. Al Lopez had a CVA  and was hospitalized. Due to his neurological condition, he was discharged to home on hospice  care. His children were able to pay their final respects before before his demise today. Let us pray for Dr. Al Lopez.
