Surgical Mission Report:
SPSA Fellows Drs. Bayani Ignacio, Rolly Mendiola, Ed Barcelona, Ed Navarro, Ed Gamboa, Aimee Mabini, Jesse Corres and Pete Atienza participated in the Canadian Medical Mission Society Surgical and Dental Mission in Bacnotan, La Union 1/31/26 to 2/7/26.
SPSA Fellows Drs. Francis Velcek and Ed Barcelona participated in the UPMASA Medical, Surgical and Dental Mission to Antique 2/15/26 to 2/23/26.
Rural Surgical Outreach Program: No candidate or site recommended by the PCS in 2025.

Suggestion of Dr. Ed Barcelona: to discuss in the next SPSA Zoom meeting:
As we ( SPSA Surgeons) approach the sunset of our life, we have to think of a project in which the name of SPSA, World Surgical Foundation and Montero Medical Mission will be remembered in perpetuity.
I suggest SPSA donate $50,000 of our current SPSA funds to PCS Foundation to be deposited in a trust . Interest only from the trust will fund annually a surgeon speaker of international repute and stature to deliver a lecture to the general assembly of the PCS free of charge to all attendees of the PCS during their annual convention in December.
I suggest we invite World Surgical Foundation and Montero Medical Mission to join SPSA in this endeavor. I suggests a contribution of $25,000 each from WSF and MMM to bring the grand total of the trust fund to $100,000.
5% annual return on $100,000 is $5000 which can fund a RT business class plane ticket for the international guest lecturer.
We should stipulate to PCS that during the introduction of the international guest speaker, it should be mentioned that the lecture is arranged by PCS and sponsored by a trust fund donated by SPSA, WSF and MMM. SPSA was an organization of Fil-Am surgeons in North America founded in 1972 to promote CME and surgical missions in the Philippines. World Surgical Foundation was an organization founded by Dr. Domingo Alvear in ____ to promote surgical missions internationally. Montero Medical Mission was an organization founded by Dr. Juan Montero in ____also to promote medical missions to the Philippines.
