California general surgeon, Rey Cordero, MD was inducted as president of the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California, at the 38th anniversary and inaugural ball, March 20, 2010 om Burlingame, California. Dr. Cordero was the society’s president in 2010 and will serve his second stint as head of the society until 2011. Rey is a fellow of the Society of Philippine Surgeon in America and is presently its Executive Secretary and liaison of the Society to the Philippine College of Surgeons.

Founded in 1972, the PMSNC has been conducting medical missions to the indigent population in the Philippines for the past 24 years. Their last mission was at Benguet General Hospital last January where they treated 4104 patients, including 99 major and 120 minor surgeries. There were 103 volunteers in the group. Dr. Cordero and his wife, Marlene Cordero, MD have been joining the missions sponsored by the PMSNC since 1995.

Rey has certainly been busy as well in his leadership position in the SPSA. He has participated in a number of SPSA surgical missions. He has, together with the current SPSA president, Bernie Palomares, been in constant dialogue with the leadership of PCS on activities of mutual interest affecting the two societies.
