Good morning, my SPSA Colleagues:
I have my mask on while typing this loving message on my sanitized laptop, so do not be afraid to look, read, smell, or touch this email. No Delta. Only SPSA friendly virus!
I have always considered you, Fellows, as the power behind the SPSA. To me, your voice counts the loudest, and our officers lead by following your command. I am emailing you to get your valuable input, to form a consensus.
I was just appointed Convention Chairman by President Honorio Cruz. I, indeed, have a giant shoe to fill, courtesy of, and thanks to, Ben.
Do you remember the July 19-24, 1981 SPSA Convention in Hilton Head, South
Carolina, where we had to get a second hotel on the spot when the registration was overflowing with 650 (Fellows and families) in attendance, 70 new Fellows joined, catapulting our membership to 440, 104 of them Life Members?
We are not trying to break that record, but you and I could invite all SPSA
Fellows within the reach of your voice to make the greatest possible attendance
to our SPSA Golden Anniversary Celebration…a wonderful last Hurrah! The start
of SPSA 2.0, our final voyage…for our Legacy.
Anyway, for the commemoration of the SPSA Golden Anniversary, the venue suggested is San Diego, during the Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons, the reason (historical and nostalgic) is because the SPSA “was born” during the ACS Congress in San Francisco in 1972.
A one-of-a-kind precious SPSA Golden Anniversary Yearbook, featuring all interested SPSA Fellows, with you and your family photo (if you choose), will be published. A treasure to cherish and keep us warm in the winter of our life!
Obviously, this will be a unique nostalgic HISTORICAL “memoir” of the
SPSA and you, which your children and theirs would love, an SPSA
legacy you can be proud of.
Since the SPSA plans to distribute this SPSA Golden Anniversary Yearbook
during our 50th, here are my questions, which I am hereby requesting you to
please email me SOONEST your valued and vital input:
1. Are you attending the ACS Congress in San Diego in October 16-20,
2022 (Sunday-Thursday)?
2. For those attending the 2022 ACS Congress, would you be interested
in having a lunch or dinner together on Tuesday, the 18th?
3 . If only a few SPSA Fellows would attend that ACS Congress, would
you consider Las Vegas instead as venue for our Golden celebration
and Yearbook distribution? (Vegas is about 4-hours drive from San
Diego, or about 1 hour flight for those attending the ACS Congress
first and then going to Vegas). We have special “inside” contact in
Vegas to get our group a discounted rate for hotel accomodation.
A fabulous new attraction is the newly opened giant Resort World Casino,
a marvel to behold, whether you play or not!
4. Would you be interested to get a copy (or two) of this EXCLUSIVE
LIMITED EDITION SPSA Golden Yearbook? We need a count.
5. Any suggestions for our Golden celebration?
Please send us your updated email and those of the other SPSA Fellows you know, and your
mailing (home) address also. These data could be added to our Yearbook.
